The building is designed to promote ‘green’ and features a diversity of green spaces namely the natural green surroundings, the park with a water feature to the south and lush green atriums. By exposing views to greenery from every room the quality of learning environments for student and teachers will be enhanced.
This ‘fabric first’ approach aims to reduce energy demand in the first instance by passive design measures such as high fabric performance. Secondly, energy efficient systems will be used to further reduce the carbon emissions of the development. Finally, the integration of low and zero carbon energy sources will be considered in order to meet the carbon emission targets.
